"The Parisian diaries": Part I

  • Sep. 7th, 2008 at 3:12 PM

Well, after months of deliberation, organisation (of sorts) and mixed feelings of excitement and apprehension, I have finally moved into my digs in Paris. I'm living in quite a posh-ish flat in the 17th Arrondissement, not too far away from the Arc de Triomphe (about 20 minute walk I think). My parents helped me move in and stayed in a hotel nearby. I'm living with three americans who seem a bit shy and also a little rude (bloody septics!) but never mind. My landlady, Mme de Sars is very nice and great to talk to.My university is in the 5th, about 45 minutes away from my place when doing a mixture of walking and metro usage. Not exactly my idea of fun but still, I'm better off than any students living in the banlieues (outer-Paris suburbs). Tomorrow I have to go there do do lots of registering and there's also a language test in the afternoon (help!)As for things in the UK, I'm disappointed that I didn't get to see very many mates before I left. It's probably because I was trying to save cash and that sort of put me off doing things :(. However, one thing I am really thankful for was that I got to see Clare very often during the holidays. Needless to say, there were many tears on her part when she went home from my place on the day before I left. It's going to be hard to be apart from each other for long periods of time, but we've had time to prepare for it, so things should be alright (I'm only a Eurostar ride away from London anyway). That's all for the moment, more to come at some point. Over and out.

I have realised...

That I pull a very silly face on account of concentration when I'm playing my double bass.

Time to eradicate this...

GET ME OUT OF HERE!

Bloody Godstone!

No trains, crap & pricey bus service and petrol prices are extortionate.

Not to mention this quiet little village is exceedingly mind-numbingly boring.

That's the last straw. When I move out, I'm moving to London. Or Brighton. Just somewhere where I won't be bored shitless!

Stone me.

Having considered exactly how much I could write about what I've been doing in the past couple of years, I now feel I should have been a bit more frequent with all this balderdash. Oh well, it's not like I can be arsed anyway.

Well, here goes.
I'm now 20, and I've just finished my second year at Kent Uni, doing Drama and French. To my surprise I've found myself doing better in french modules than my drama modules. Although to be fair, I would have possibly performed better in my acting module if I hadn't stupidly taken last-minute advice from a sanctimonious single honours drama twat who didn't even look at me when she was giving so-called "advice." Nevermind, I got a 2:1 overall for the year (like last year, but this year the actual percentage was higher). Not only that, but this coming year I will be studying in Paris!I have also been a DJ for the Rock and metal society (and dated the president for a while *shudders*), tried fencing and ballroom dancing, co-founded a short-lived tea society and this past year I have been in shows with the musical theatre troupe.

During my time at uni I have also racked up a total of three jobs (went back to The Whyte Harte a couple of times, then took up a tempestuous summer job as a barman at Cafe, then had a job at Chambers cafe in Canterbury). Now that I'm back in Godstone I should really be having another search, but I left Canterbury a bit too late. Never mind, after the toils I went through last summer, and the fact that I miraculously held down a job during term time, I deserve a break. I know that sounds sort of irresponsible of me, but fuck it.

In addition, I have acquired an amazing new girlfriend called Clare, who I love an obscenely high amount and with whom things are going impressively well. That's her with me in the default pic, in case you were wondering. We've been going out for 2 months now and we have never ever had a row (here's hoping I haven't jinxed it by saying that). I first met her briefly through my mate Phil (who she dated before he started uni in the same year I did), then a few months ago we began talking properly, then meeting up and it all progressed from there. Funnily enough, the first time we spoke properly was the result of a debate about Boris Johnson, but we usually manage to overlook each others' political views. She's recently graduated with a 1st in English Lit, and at the moment we are seeing each other more regularly than we thought we would :-D (she lives in Loughton, Essex). Who knows, I might even be able to say the same for when I'm in Paris.

In the mean time, I intend to carry on seeing Clare as often as I can, catch up with old mates and otherwise try and make the most of the summer (must try and get down to the Black Sheep and Slimelight some time.)

Over and out.

AMPLIFY!

  • Oct. 7th, 2006 at 12:21 PM

Well, I thought I'd write something about it for my first entry. So here it is.
Last night was AMPLIFY! the rock soc's night at The Rutherford college bar (just downstairs from me!) and what a night!
Loud music, dancing/moshing/skanking/whatever, snakebite for £2.50, a really good night. A little quieter than the alt freshers but that was understandable.
The only thing that ruined it was when I got knocked by someone (I won't say their name)and spilt snakebite on one girl's fairy wings - and got the blame for it GGGRRRRRRR!
Oh well nevermind. Enjoyed myself for the main part :)
